The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Clark County at 1:52 p.m. Sunday. The warning runs until 2:30 p.m. Radar showed a severe thunderstorm over Enterprise at 1:52 p.m., moving northeast at 35 mph.

The storm can produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph, the weather service said. Forecasters expect damage to roofs, siding and trees. Residents in the path should stay indoors and away from windows until the warning ends, and should secure or move loose outdoor items if they can do so safely.

The weather service listed a wide range of places in the storm's path. They include Enterprise, Southern Highlands, Spring Valley, Mountains Edge, Summerlin, Paradise, Henderson, North Las Vegas, East Las Vegas, Green Valley, Anthem and Lake Las Vegas. The list also covers The Strip, Fremont Street, Nellis Air Force Base and Harry Reid International Airport.

Showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue through late afternoon before tapering off in the evening, according to the weather service's forecast discussion issued at 12:27 p.m. Sunday. Brief heavy rain and lightning are possible. Overnight rainfall across the eastern Mojave Desert, including Las Vegas, ranged from roughly a quarter inch to three quarters of an inch.

For the airport, forecasters said breezy southwest winds with gusts of 15 to 25 knots were expected in the afternoon. They said showers and a possible isolated thunderstorm could briefly lower sky conditions and visibility, with the best chances between roughly 10 a.m. and noon and again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time. Precipitation chances were expected to end by early evening.

The weather turns calmer after the storms pass. Conditions dry out on Monday with northerly breezes, and the rest of the week looks dry. Temperatures start slightly below normal and climb slightly above normal by next weekend. Patchy fog is possible in cooler valleys over the next few mornings.

This is not the first severe storm warning in the Las Vegas area this week. On Friday, Oct. 30, the weather service issued several severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Clark County, including areas around Fremont Street, East Las Vegas and Paradise, with quarter-size hail the main hazard.
