Replace a lost or stolen license by booking a duplicate-license appointment directly with the Nevada DMV. The statutory fee for a duplicate license is $14.00 (NRS 483.410), but the total at the counter is higher because NRS 483.347 and NRS 483.415 add further fees on top.
Nevada DMV services are by appointment only, with a few exceptions: license plate drop-off, past-due debt payments, title drop-off after a Turbo Titles payment, and VIN inspections. A duplicate license is not on that list, so plan to book a slot.
Step 1: Book the right appointment
Make the appointment with the Nevada DMV itself, not through this site. Choose the duplicate transaction. A new-resident license, a renewal, an address change and a vehicle registration are different transactions with different papers, so booking the right one means one trip is enough.
Step 2: Gather what you need
Check the Nevada DMV's list of required documents for a duplicate before you go. Put every document in one folder in the order the clerk will ask for it, starting with your ID and proof of address. Write your appointment confirmation on the front, and bring a way to pay.
Step 3: Know what you will pay
The statutory fee is $14.00 for a duplicate (NRS 483.410). Check the DMV's posted total before you go, since extra fees are added at the counter.
If you also need a new photo, a name change or another change other than address, the statutory fee for that is $5.00 (NRS 483.410).
You may get the duplicate free, once
The DMV must waive the duplicate-license fee one time for three groups (NRS 483.417):
A person who signs an affidavit that they are homeless; a person released from prison within the past year; and a person released from a county or city jail within the past 90 days, with release papers.
Related deadlines to watch
If you moved, tell the DMV your old and new address and your license number within 30 days (NRS 483.390). If your license has expired, renew within 30 days of expiring to avoid the $10.00 late penalty (NRS 483.386). Driving on an expired license is still driving without a valid license.
